Real-time visualization

Real-time virtual camera tracking is ideal for scouting virtual locations, framing shots, and rapidly iterating on complex scenes. Lay down camera moves and capture mocap actors, in the same volume, for previsualization capabilities that are impossible to achieve with traditional keyframing methods. Canned animation can also be integrated into your scene in combination with live camera work.

Reduced production times

Using motion capture to drive your virtual camera decreases your production workload significantly. In addition to increased realism, mocap offers rapid content creation, real-time results, and greater creative control over your animation, enabling you to create content quickly and affordably.

Modular hardware

The VCS:Pro supports multiple configurations to fit the demands of your shoot, offering DPs a flexible approach to capturing the feel you require. Utilize the complete shoulder mount for stable and ergonomic control. Or, strip the rig down to bare hand grips, controls, and display for lightweight, run and gun style shooting.

Built with the RedRock microShoulderMount, the VCS:Pro can also be supplemented with a host of RedRock modules to create advanced and highly personalized rigs. Even the VCS controllers are customizable, with plug and play support for custom-designed USB devices.

In addition to the modular VCS:Pro, the VCS:Mini is available as an even more affordable and lightweight option.


Interoperability with other
motion capture systems

To ensure compatibility with a variety of production pipelines, the Insight VCS can be integrated into existing, 3rd party motion capture systems with our Universal MotionBuilder plugin. Support is available for any motion capture system that can stream 6DoF rigid body data to MotionBuilder, for mapping to the virtual camera.

OptiTrack’s tracking bars are pre-calibrated at the factory, prior to shipment—meaning that no user calibration is required. Full multi-camera systems built with multiple cameras require camera arrangement, cabling, and calibration by the user prior to tracking.
6DoF tracking with a single device
A single tracking bar device can track rigid bodies in 6DoF out of the box, while OptiTrack motion capture cameras require multiple (3+) calibrated cameras to capture 6DoF object data.
Highly portable
Each tracking bar is a self-contained system, offering engineering-grade 6DoF tracking in a highly portable form factor. While full motion capture systems can provide superior scalability and performance, they cannot be transported or deployed nearly as quickly as a tracking bar.

Grayscale video with MPEG compression

When operating any of the Trio’s cameras in grayscale, on-camera MJPEG compression is available for reduced USB bandwidth and CPU usage. MJPEG compression consumes 1/10th the bandwidth of uncompressed video while still enabling real-time grayscale video at full frame rate and full resolution.

Precise, efficient motion tracking

OptiTrack Slim 3U

The Slim 3U is a board level camera designed for OEM integration in computer vision, multi-touch screens/surfaces, and custom tracking applications. It is fully customizable, with a variety of optional components and features. Software support includes the free Camera SDK, which provides complete control and access to camera settings.

The Slim 3U is capable of capturing fast moving objects with its global shutter imager and 120 FPS capture speed. By maximizing its 640 × 480 VGA resolution through advanced image processing algorithms, the Slim 3U can also track objects down to sub-millimeter movements with repeatable accuracy.

On-camera image processing

In addition to providing raw and MJPEG grayscale video, SLIM cameras can process and threshold data on-board, creating a variety of video modes deliverable to your PC, including:

  • Precision grayscale – Most precise object detection. Sends grayscale object information to the PC for calculation of location, size, and roundness using our most precise processing methods.Provides greater accuracy than other modes, but consumes more CPU resources and USB bandwidth.
  • Segment – Balanced object detection. Similar to Precision Grayscale, Segment processing streamlines object information for more CPU-efficient marker detection. Provides a balance between precision and USB bandwidth use.
